Tourism Sighs with Relief

Filed under: Introduction — parto @ 9:26 am

The tourism sector has received a boost from 2009/2010 budget the sector has been allocated Shs 1.2 billion. The Kenya Tourism Development Corporation was allocated Shs 800 million and another Shs 400 million towards high-end marketing. This money is to be channeled to Kenya Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) to be lent to business enterprises to protect jobs as well as for tourism marketing the high-end market.

There was fear that the industry’s budget would be slashed by a near 70% over the 2008 allocation. The sector had experienced difficulties especially during the post election violence and subsequent global financial crisis. The sector is expected to play a key role in the achieving the Vision 2030 objectives, thus strong actions are required to withstand current challenges and return to its impressive performance that was witnessed prior to the post-election disturbances.

Another boost to the sector the exemption from tax of four wheel drive vehicles so as to revive and promote growth of this sector.
