Outspan is located a kilometer from Nyeri town, Outspan is a comfortable hotel, set in a well tended tropical garden with views of Mount Kenya. The 45 rooms are spacious and airy, most with fire places and garden access.Outspan serves as a base hotel for Treetops, guests check in and have lunch before departing for Treetops. Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Scouting movement spent the last three years of his life in a cottage called Paxtu.
GAME DRIVES
Outspan is home to 2000 Elephants and is the last remaining habitat of the elusive Bongo Antelope and the giant Forest Hog. Other animals to be seen include Black Rhinos,Buffaloes,Serval Cats,Leopards,African Wild Cat, Spotted Hyena,African Civet and the rare Golden Cat.
NATURE WALK
Outspan is famed for its expansive grounds, beautiful gardens and over 300 bird species. As you take a guided walk along river Chania, our naturalist will identify the flora & fauna, and a waterfall gorge where the river squeezes between black rocks. The highlight is the massive five hundred year old mugumo tree, sacred to the Kikuyu people.
COFFEE FARM VISIT
Nyeri is the home of the finest Arabica coffee in the world. At the Kihuri Coffee Estate, the farm manager will guide you round the 70 year old plantation and take you through conversion, harvesting and the grading process of coffee beans.
VISIT PAXTU MUSEUM
The Outspan Cottage Paxtu was built for Lord Baden-Powell, founder of Scouts movement. From October 1938, Baden Powell and his wife lived in the cottage until the Chief Scout’s death in 1941.Preserved as a museum with various memorabilia in his memory is Paxtu.
GIKUYU DANCE
The Gikuyu are the largest ethnic group in Kenya and they have always placed ceremonies in high regard and a place was

always set aside for them in the centre of every village. At Outspan, Gikuyu ceremonies and songs take place in a typical Gikuyu Village of thatched huts and ceremonial trees within the hotel grounds every day at 13.30hrs.
